Os Belenenses

Established in 1919, it stands as one of the country’s oldest sports organizations. The club plays at the Estádio do Restelo in Belém, Lisbon, which accommodates nearly 20,000 spectators, and its name translates to "The ones from Belém." Among supporters, it's affectionately referred to as O Belém, reflecting its local roots, as well as by names such as Os Pastéis (inspired by a famous pastry from the area), the Azuis (Blues) or Azuis do Restelo (The Blues from Restelo), pointing to the club's colors and home ground, and A Cruz de Cristo (The Order of Christ Cross), derived from its emblem. Additionally, “Os Rapazes da Praia” (The Boys of the Beach) harkens back to the Belém region's history in the early 20th century. The club made history by clinching the Primeira Liga title in the 1945–46 season, becoming the first team outside of Portugal's "Big Three" to do so. Belenenses boasts six Championship of Portugal/Portuguese Cup victories, securing its place as the fifth most successful team in the nation’s football history. Notably, it has achieved podium finishes in the league on 19 occasions. Until 1982, Belenenses maintained its status as one of four clubs that had never faced relegation from the premier division. It currently ranks fourth in terms of seasons played in the Primeira Liga and fifth for total points earned throughout the competition's history. Belenenses holds the distinction of being the first Portuguese team to install a turf pitch equipped with artificial lighting and was also a pioneer in participating in the UEFA Europa League. In addition to football, the club engages in various sports including handball, basketball, futsal, athletics, and rugby union, having secured national championships across all these disciplines. However, it remains most famously associated with football, its original focus. Throughout its history, Belenenses has amassed over 10,000 trophies, achieving success in top-tier football, handball, basketball, rugby, and the Portuguese Cup in both football and futsal, among others.
